Manufacturing / Process Engineer

Leading Tier 1 automotive supplier is seeking an experienced Manufacturing/Process Engineer. Applicants must have a minimum of five years’ experience in a production environment, preferably working with machining, assembly, and testing processes of metal castings for the automotive industry.

Primary Role
  • Specify, develop, implement, and support processes for production of metal cast components for the automotive industry.  Typical processes include various forms of metal removal, assembly, testing, part marking, data collection, automation, and material handling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Specify, order, and manage build and implementation of:
    • Machining fixtures
    • Capital equipment
    • Part checking gages
    • Cutting tools
  • Develop processes that are statistically capable of manufacturing products that meet all required specifications
  • Create process documentation and instructions
  • Provide expert assistance to maintenance department personnel to troubleshoot and correct issues with production processes
  • Work with multi-discipline teams to implement corrective actions and process improvements
  • Suggest, test, and implement cost savings through reductions in costs of material, tooling, labor, or scrap
Necessary Skills
  • Ability to read blueprints and GD&T
  • CNC programming with Fanuc controls
  • Cutting tool specification and optimization
  • AutoCAD 2D drawing
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to do “hands-on” work to resolve production issues
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and effectively within a team
Other Useful Skills
  • Experience designing, integrating, debugging, trouble shooting, and programming Fanuc Robot controlled work cells
  • Machine diagnostics using PLC
  • Design with Siemens NX
  • Knowledge of laser marking systems, barcode readers, and data collection systems
  • Experience with industrial vision systems including application, implementation, integration, programming, and knowledge of limitations of systems
  • Experience programming Allen-Bradley PLC, motion, HMI integration and programming
  • Knowledge and experience with various industrial safety standards
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics
